-------------------------------------------------- 【 英語訳 】 We are pleased to announce the exhibition "100 Selections of Japanese Ceramics 'Today'," showcasing the works of leading contemporary Japanese ceramic artists.
Japanese pottery boasts a history and tradition dating back to the Jomon period, approximately 12,000 years ago, considered the world's oldest pottery. Furthermore, a uniquely Japanese way of appreciating pottery has developed, appreciating the subtle nuances of the clay and finding beauty in unexpected colors resulting from firing. Currently, the number of ceramic art enthusiasts in Japan is said to reach 10 million.
Therefore, to explore the overall picture of Japanese ceramics?a craft with a long history and unique character, embodying the essential characteristics of Japanese culture in a concrete and symbolic way?we have invited 58 currently active ceramic artists, from masters of contemporary Japanese ceramics to emerging talents, to contribute their works.
We hope you will enjoy this exhibition, which showcases a wide range of works, from those rooted in tradition and brimming with stylistic beauty to objects reflecting contemporary society, all imbued with the spirit of the present era.
Furthermore, this exhibition will also be held in Paris, France, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Tokyo and Paris. We hope that by allowing many people in France, a country that has fostered a rich ceramic culture in Europe, to see Japan's outstanding ceramic arts, we can contribute to the promotion of cultural exchange between Japan and France and the advancement of arts and culture.
Finally, we express our sincere gratitude to the curators, exhibitors, and all those involved.
